EMPTY HEART

Our friendship goes back through the years
To the days of youth before the fears
That now have got a grip on you
We fought the boss for a yearly raise
We danced in the dark to glory days
But now we just drift apart

Now for me you say everything has worked out fine
While for you life's a picture of passing time
Week after week I pass your home
Your curtains stay drawn to the outside street
You're just waiting for lady luck to fall at your feet
But that's not the way love grows

But it felt like brothers way back then
Music laughter a sense of being
It seemed with not a care in the world
Well the care's still here
And the love's still strong
Someday your dream will come along
And love will fill your empty heart

Now I know that life takes different roads
But it seems that ours now never converge
And if only I could turn back time
But if to see me happy only makes you sad
And to stay apart now makes you glad
Then there's nothing left for me to say
